Daughters of Grace Series: The Widow With Two Coins and Lydia

Daughters of Grace Series: The Widow With Two Coins and Lydia

Last week we continued a study from the Daily Grace Co. called Daughters of Grace. We talked about The Sinful Woman and the Woman with the issue of blood, their stories, characteristics, and what we can learn from their lives. This week we are talking about The Widow With Two Coins found in Mark 12:41-44 and Luke 21:1-4. We are also going to talk about Lydia, found in Acts 16:6-40. Though these are very different women with very different stories, the theme of their lives looks very similar!

If you would like a link to purchase the study we are reading from, click here. You may also head over to our Facebook Page and watch the live video from 4/19/22 if you would like to just listen to what the book reads and follow along.

The Widow With Two Coins:

1. What do we learn about God and His character in the life of The Widow With Two Coins?

This story shows us that in God's eyes those who have little have no less to offer than those with much. We learn that what God cares about most is where our hearts are. In many other stories in the Bible, we get a picture of God's faithfulness to us, but in this story we get to see the flip side of how pleased God is with our hearts when we trust fully in that faithfulness.

2. What character qualities, positive or negative, do we see demonstrated in The Widow With Two Coins?

  • generous
  • pure hearted
  • faithful
  • dedicated
  • humble

3. What can I learn from The Widow With Two Coins' story that I can apply to my own life?

  • God see's your sacrifices and that sacrificing much requires great trust in God and His promises.
  • God looks at the posture of our heart.

Lydia:

1. What do we learn about God and His character in the life of Lydia?

We learn that God always has a plan for us and provides! God chased Lydia down and then later used her gifts and faithfulness to help Paul and Silas later. We may not always understand how God's plan will play out, but He always has one.

2. What character qualities, positive or negative, do we see demonstrated in the life of Lydia?

  • listener; eager to learn
  • worshiper
  • hospitable
  • brave
  • servant hearted
  • faithful

3. What can I learn from Lydia's story that I can apply to my own life?

  • This story reminds us to have our hearts open and ready to serve and be used by God. We each have different gifts but God can use each in His ultimate plan!
  • Position yourself for opportunities and to be a part of God's plan
  • Nothing we do or give out of love and faithfulness to God is too small. Jesus will take whatever we have to offer and use it for good and for His glory. (Which is what we also see illustrated in The Widow With Two Coins' life)
