Making Room for God's Purpose

This is going to be a very brief blog entry on the importance of making room for the greater purpose God has for your life. It is something I have been thinking a lot lately as I look toward the future and what I currently believe to be God's purpose for my life in this season. 

Figuring out where in our life God's purpose would even have a place when it comes along is super similar to tidying our homes. In order to bring something new in, we probably need to analyze what is already there and then make space for what we are bringing in. A friend on Facebook reminded me of this the other day when I was clearing out my shoe closet to make room for new shoes I had my eye on. She messaged me that this reminds her of how we also have to make room for God's plans to come into our lives. I don't know if there was divine intervention in that message, but it really made me think about my own life and if there is currently room for God to show me new purpose in it. 

I currently stay very busy with SHE WHO IS and I think that there is an important purpose that God has planned with it to bring others to Christ! It is definitely not a bad thing to be taking up my time but something that consumes so much of our time probably doesn't leave a lot of extra room for other potential purpose filled areas of life. I also love watching TV at night with Michael. There's nothing wrong with this but maybe if we watched one less episode per night I would suddenly find time that I didn't realize was there. If you cleared out just one thing from your life to make more room for God's purpose, what kinds of things do you think you would find in the void? 

For me, the answer was time, energy, kindness, and even money! Maybe if I wasn't doing xyz hobby, I would have extra time, energy and funds to give the Lord. And if I wasn't busy and pushed to the max, maybe I would be a little kinder to that stranger. 

Something that stands out in my mind is the story of Lydia in Acts 16:11-15. She gathered in a place of prayer and was worshipping God instead of staying home or doing other things. Because of this, the Lord opened her heart and her and the members of her household were baptized. God then used Lydia for a greater purpose for His plan. Could God have made this plan come about if Lydia had just stayed in her house that day? Maybe, because God can do anything but we don't know for sure. What we do know is that Lydia was positioning herself to be used for God's plan. 

If we want to have a greater purpose and want God to use us for His ultimate plan, we need to make sure we are being intentional with our time and to place ourselves in a position to be able to be used by God. 

This blog post wasn't meant to be reprimanding in nature or to make you feel like something you are doing is wrong or not God's purpose for your life. I simply wanted to remind you to take frequent inventory of your life, like we do in our houses. See what is there, what is fruitful and prune what is not. You never know what areas of your life could make a big difference for God's plan if you allowed Him to work in it.
